What do I have to do in NHS?
As a Junior:
- Complete 15 hours of unsponsored hours and 5 hours of sponsored hours - each semester
- Come to every meeting
- Pay your dues*
- Complete 15 hours of unsponsored hours and 5 hours of sponsored hours - each semester
- Come to every meeting
What constitutes a "sponsored" hour?
- Sponsored hours will be announced via email by the NHS officers
- Must be non-profit and beneficial to the community
- With sponsored hours, you must attend at least 2 events for a total of 5 hours
Can I get kicked out?
- 3 strikes and your membership will be reviewed
- 1 strike for missing a meeting
- 1 strike for not completing regular hours
- 1 strike for not completing sponsored hours
- 1 strike if dues are not paid (if this is still with you when you graduate, you don't receive the NHS tassel)
- Strikes will rollover semester to semester, year to year!
How do I get rid of strikes?
- For a sponsored hour strike: make up the missed sponsored hours, plus 3 more hours of service
- For a regular hour strike: make the missed hours up and 3 more hours
- For a meeting strike: do an additional 3 hours
- Additional hours may either be sponsored or unsponsored
- For a dues strike: pay them!
Can my hours roll over?
- Any sponsored or unsponsored hours may roll over from semester to semester, not year to year
* Please note: It is the policy of LASA NHS and of the National Association of Secondary School Principles that no member otherwise in good standing shall receive a strike against them as a result of genuine financial hardship that prevents them from paying dues. If you and your family cannot afford the dues, please speak with an officer or Mr. Loewenstern and this requirement will be waived.
